The Crates League 4
Updates for Season 4
Season 4 will have many changes. All changes added will be highlighted with green fonts. Let's highlight some of the changes for season 4. Expansion, Socials, Payouts, and HTL's rule change.
How to Play
We play by the common accepted rules of Crates
League Play
Based on 12 players per night playing 4 games. Players earn individual points based on order of finish, bonus points, outs, socials, and hit the leader bonuses. The points are totaled after each league meet for rewards and running totals are kept for season long rewards.
League Night & Game 1
In all league meetings, players will draw cards to determine where they sit and play. Each card will determine the seating order. Players will cut the cards to see who deals first. The player who cuts the lowest card shall begin the game as the dealer. The ranking value begins with Kings being the highest and Aces being the lowest when cutting the cards. All players play for the same number of league points regardless of which table you play.
Games 2+
At the end of Game 1, the three winners and the lowest scoring 2nd place player will play at the "Champions Table". Players that finish in 2nd place and the two lowest scoring 3rd place finishers will play their next game at the "Challengers Table". The three 4th place finishers and the last remaining 3rd place finisher will play at the "Comeback Table". This process will repeat after each game.
Meet #8, Game #32
In the final meeting, in the last game of the season. All season long standings will be readjusted to set the final game in play. The top 4 players ranked will compete at the Champions table. Players ranked 5-8 will compete at the Challengers Table. Players ranked 9-12 will play at the Comeback Table. The winner of Game #32 at the Challengers table will earn a $20 bonus. After game 31 and all standings are readjusted. If it is determined that the first-place player in the season long standings cannot be challenged for the overall lead, then that first-place player will compete at the Comeback Table. 5th place will move up to the Champions table, and 9th place will move up to the Challengers Table.
What are the points
Order of Finish
1st Place = 1,000 Points
2nd Place = 700 Points
3rd Place = 550 Points
4th Place = 400 Points
Players are assigned these point totals based on order of finish for each game. The points are earned for the players individual nightly performance and season long totals.
Bonus Play Points
Bonus points are awarded to the individual player based on how many points they score in each game. Lower scores will earn more points for the individual and encourage all players to play within the spirit of the game which is to always try to get the leader.
The calculation for bonus points works as follows:
1000 – (the players final score) = Bonus Play Points
Example: Winning score is 357 points. Therefore 1000 – 357 = 643 bonus points
If an individual player scores more than 1000 points in a game, that player receives 0 bonus points.
Cost
The cost for each player is $20 dollars per league meeting. Players play 4 games per league meeting.
Payouts
The Crates League shall payout winnings to the top five players for the number of individual points earned in each league meeting after the four total games have been played.
Buy in for 12 players = $20 per person. $240 collected each night.
1st Place = $60
2nd & 3rd Place = $40
4th & 5th Place = $20
The remaining $60 shall go toward a season long points championship and other categorical awards.
Hit the Leader Bonus Points
Hitting the Leader bonus gives the individual a chance to earn bonus points to be added to the players nightly and season long total score for quality play within the spirit of the game. Hitting the leader bonus points are earned when an individual is responsible for the leading player taking a shuffle pressure. This bonus can be awarded after the 4th hand of the game is completed. Beginning with the 5th hand, or the dealing of 4 cards on the way down activates the HTL bonus. The score keeper shall mark the Hit the Leader column by providing a tally.
Hit the Leader Bonus Points = 75 points
Hitting the leader is defined by being the individual that plays the final card on the stockpile that causes the leader to take a shuffle pressure.
Examples include but not limited to...
* Playing a 7, forcing the leader sitting across from the player to take a shuffle pressure
* Playing a 5, forcing the leader regardless of where they sit to take a shuffle pressure
* Playing a wild card and calling a suit that causes the leader to take a shuffle pressure
* Playing any card to the leader and causes them to take a shuffle pressure.
* Playing the last card on the stockpile that makes non-leading players draw from the pile and then the leader is forced to draw and take a shuffle pressure.
The exception to this rule is during ‘The Count”.
* The player (not the leader) who initiates the count is rewarded with an HTL bonus if the leader must draw cards from the pile and receive a shuffle pressure.
* If the count should end with a non-leading player drawing all remaining cards from the pile, and the leader must subsequently draw and take a shuffle pressure, then the player who started the count is rewarded with the HTL bonus.
A player CAN NOT under any circumstance earn the HTL bonus if they are the LEADER, unless there is a tie for the lead beyond the 4th hand.
Out Bonus Points
Players are awarded bonus points for going out. The "Out Bonus" is worth 20 points to the individual that ends the hand. The only exception to this rule is if multiple players are “out” if the count is in play. The score keeper shall mark the Out column by providing a tally.
Social Bonus Points
Players are awarded bonus points for completing a "Social". A "Social" is when all four cards of the same rank and value are played in a row. For example, the first player lays a Queen of Hearts. The next player changes suit to Queen of Clubs. The third player or play is another Queen and the 4th player, or the play is the last queen completing the "Social". The Social Bonus awards 5 points to the last player. The score keeper shall mark the "Social" column by providing a tally.
Season Length
The season shall run for 8 league meetings and a total of 96 games. The main players of the league are eligible for season long winnings. If a player is unable to play, the sub player’s individual points earned for that night shall count for the league player.

Substitute Players

Sub players points are counted towards the player they are subbing for. All scoring records, meeting points, and rewards go to the league player based on the performance of the substitute player. Sub players do not earn monetary rewards unless they choose to pay the meet fee of $20.
